PostSubject: Internet Security   Tue Jan 19, 2010 1:45 pm

Today i got an email like that. Well, it was an email designed to steal passwords. So, i thought id take this opportunity to discuss internet security. Never follow links from emails unless you know the person. If you get an email like the one above, go to the website yourself and log in, do not follow the email link. It would have stolen my account username and password. Also, i recomend getting a better browser then Internet Explorer. Anything is better, as IE is the worst browser out there. I use Google Chromehttp://www.google.com/chrome I trust its security, and this site is optimized for google chrome. If you want extensions, use this this version of Chromehttp://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?extra=devchannel. I use this version, and extensions work great. If you are still scared about security, use the extension Web of Trust. It rates the security of websites and works well with google chrome.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Let me ask a quick question, how did you know it was a scam? With Tech today. I can get an e-mail from my brother saying "look at this video" and it would hold a trojan virus, because a program sunck into his hotmail. Ona seperate note, I'm thinking of switching e-mail providers suggestions?

You can never be sure its bad. So i advise manually go somewhere instead of following a link. If you have met the person (not a auto mail or something), then it might be ok. If you hover over a link, it will say where it actually goes (at least in chrome), not where it says it will go. .valar.forumotion.com/portal
For example, that URL says it will take you to the portal, and it actually takes you to the index.
I recommend gmail. And switching away from Internet Explorer lie its the palgue.

Well, just dont follow the links. Go to the site manually, and then look to make sure everything is ok there.
If your confused about some, post them here.
Are you still using Internet Explorer?

Very good. And if your STILL worried
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/bhmmomiinigofkjcapegjjndpbikblnp
Its an ugly link, but its fine.
Also, if its HTTPS instead of HTTP, its more secure, so look for it on sites that you log into.

If you are worried about Evony's security (Chrome users rejoice, your safer but not invulnerable), you could always run ubuntu in a virtual machine and play evony that way.
